A lot of people think emo is short for emotional. Emo people often are seen as emotional, depressed, suicidal people. But this has nothing to do with emo. In fact emo is short for Emotional-hardcore which is a music genre from the mid 80s. Emotional-hardcore is eveloped from the Hardcore-punk scene. Instead of political song lyrics has Emotional-hardcore emotional lyrics. The bands often sing about their personal feelings, depression, sadness but also about love.

Later emotional-hardcore got it's own fanbase. These Emotional-hardcore fans formed a whole new subculture and they called them selves emos. Emos find them selves in the music and recocnize them selves into the lyrics. Emos are verry emotional people (this doesn't mean they are depressed). They Think it's importand to be open about all your feelings and not hide them. The emo subculture has it's own clothingstyle and lifestyle. The emo subculture was really populair from 2005 to 2012 but than it's populairity vanished. A lot of people think emo is dead now but that isn't true. Because it's less populair doesn't mean it's dead. And if it's really dead.. than how the f*ck is that possible? I'm emo and I'm writing this now.. Or maybe I'm a ghost?.. xD
